Tony Motola

Tony Motola is President of Joy Communications, a full service marketing firm that offers a wide range of services including branding, public relations, innovative media, advertising, public outreach, community relations and crisis management. JoyCom serves a diverse clientele, all of whom receive personalized attention and commitment to their business goals.

Motola has nearly 20 years experience in Metro-Phoenix in public affairs, research and strategic planning, campaign management, public advocacy, marketing communications, media relations, serving as senior staff to elected officials, and event management. He strives to integrate the interests of a wide range of stakeholders on behalf of his clients to create successes the community remembers.

Prior to joining JoyCom Tony directed the Phoenix Parks and Preserves Initiative to the largest margin of victory for any ballot measure in the history of Phoenix and also led the campaign of Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, securing 77 percent of the vote in his successful bid for re-election.

Tony also served as Senior Assistant to Mayor Gordon prior to his re-election in 2007. Previously, Motola was the first non-sworn Executive Director for United Phoenix Firefighters Association Local 493.

Prior to joining Local 493, Motola spent three years as Director of Government Affairs for Southwest Ambulance following eight years of service as Chief of Staff to the Phoenix City Council. Motola also was the Deputy Campaign Manager for Transit 2000, the ballot initiative which established the dedicated funding source for light rail service in the City of Phoenix.

Motola currently serves as the Executive Director of the Phoenix Parks and Conservation Foundation, a recognized non-profit organization founded in 1979 that serves the 501c3 function of the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department.

Tony is a former City of Phoenix Planning Commissioner and a past board member of the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation Arizona Advisory Committee, the Arizona Alliance of Non-Profits, Valley Citizen’s League, and the City of Phoenix Human Relations Commission.

Motola was named by The Phoenix Business Journal as one of the city’s forty most influential leaders under the age of 40 in 2005, is a graduate of Valley Leadership Class XXVI and has been honored as one of “Arizona’s Finest” by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Arizona.

Tony received his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Northern Arizona University and earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Arizona State University.  The north-central resident has called Phoenix home since 1971.
